Disappointing lyrics mar Anjulie’s debut album.
Anjulie is unarguably a great young Canadian singer. Her 14-track self-titled debut album illustrates her vocal range and capabilities. A multitude of different rhythms throughout the album showcases her ability to adapt her voice to many musical situations. However, the songs themselves lack impressive lyrics, something which detracts from an otherwise enjoyable listen. There are some bright spots on the album, like Crazy That Way, a piano-driven, lovesick ballad that is easy to relate to. Anjulie has the potential to become a great R&B artist once she improves her songwriting to a level that is on par with her musical and vocal talent.
