Bat for Lashes: Two Suns

4 stars

Close to being out of this world

The Brighton-based songwriter releases her new album with an alter ego: Pearl, “a self-absorbed, blonde, femme fatale.” The lyrics of tracks Two Planets and Traveling Woman showcase the juxtaposition between the destructive Pearl, and Khan’s more spiritual self. The artist reveals her inner struggles through dreamy tunes with haunting falsettos. One thing is for sure, Khan is unafraid to experiment with her ever-growing range. Amidst the variety of mystical melodies and toe-tappers are carefully crafted lyrics. The double persona spiel seems to be an old hat trick, but Khan’s music makes up for it.
