Blind Horses: Colourful Noises

4 stars

Up-and-coming teens prove themselves with their original sound.

Blind Horses have a consistent sound throughout the album that could be described as somewhere between The Velvet Underground and Pavement. Their songs tell a story about romance, everyday life, and losing yourself with a refreshingly steady beat. The lyrics are upbeat with a feel-good tune, like the line, “At every glance I give you a second chance, I’m in a lovely trance,” from Spring Season Girl. This is Blind Horses’ first CD, and is a great achievement for the three 17-year-old guys from British Columbia. Tracks like Colourful Noises and Freakshow are quiet and repetitive but hold powerful lyrics. While their sound may not be for everyone, this CD is worth a listen just to experience the purely original sound of Blind Horses.
