Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse present Dark Night Of The Soul

4 Stars

Cool new collaboration has more bark than bite.

Judging by the cover, in this case the album, Danger Mouse’s new collaboration with Sparklehorse seems dark, sinister and depressing. Ironically, their music is rather quite the opposite. The album’s sound is very much light and sometimes folk-y, and could be the perfect companion record to The Monsters of Folk album. Lyrically, what would seem like bleak, brooding lyrics turn out to be upbeat and funny, as heard in Everytime I’m With You. With cool guest stars such as The Flaming Lips, Julian Casablancas (The Strokes) and more, this album certainly deserves a listen, even from the most faint of heart.

Very sad

What an ominous legacy this album will have since Mark Linkous' (Sparklehorse) suicide in March. Huge talent. Huge loss.
