Jenny Lewis: Acid Tongue

3 stars

Lewis misses the mark with latest release.

After her first solo album, 2006's fantastic Rabbit Fur Coat, Jenny Lewis has tried to diversify her sound, at the expense of her creativity. Gritty and ruthless, the songs are more brash than revealing, and though they celebrate her brilliant vocals and lyrics, they lack the unique stamp of the first album. Lewis has a talent for revealing intensely personal emotions, and portraying brashness, sex and love in a human light. She needs to get back to that, without letting her own stamp of ownership be obscured.

Sam's fave track: Black Sand
