Kate Nash is back, and she's brought some edge with her.
Known for her quirky lyrics and offbeat persona, Kate Nash's sound is best described as pleasingly mismatched. My Best Friend is You takes a surprising turn from Nash's earlier work. Ranging from the sweetly cynical to '60s-style chants to stream of consciousness monologues, this album presents the Cockney-accented speak-singer with a slightly raunchier edge.
Certain tracks at first listen seem oddly out of place, but it's pulled off an unhinged charisma that only Nash could deliver. The album is riddled with drowsy guitar riffs, heavy drums and lyrics that talk of everything from jilted lovers to cream teas and strawberries. Kate Nash is back and bolder than ever and My Best Friend is You proves once again to fans that she's a girl who doesn't fear taking risks.
