Martha and the Muffins: Delicate

4 stars

“Re-debut” for the old 80’s band works its magic.

Never heard of Martha and the Muffins? Well that’s OK. Delicate is their first record containing new material in 18 years, and it strikes a balance between 80’s synth-pop and easy rock. The female vocals are a nice touch, and contribute well to their distinctive sound. The band uses a lot of synthesizers, although the CD is so well put together that it is a welcome addition. Like most easy rock albums, repetition rears its ugly head as songs all start to sound similar, but with such solid music, it’s not much of a concern. Delicate is a fantastic way for the band to get back in the music scene.
