Neil Young’s heavy rock album disappoints.
Fans will probably be disappointed by Neil Young’s 44th album. While he has always shifted between heavy rock and country rock, this CD lacks much of Young’s usual poetic subtlety and instead offers up some repetitive, heavy music and uninspiring lyrics. But the album does afford a few good songs, particularly Light a Candle and Cough up the Bucks, which offer lyrics that are actually up to Neil Young’s usual stellar standards. In the end, if you’re not an absolute, die-hard Young fan, this album may not be worth your money.
