Just another ordinary indie release.
Compared to industry heavyweights such as Pink Floyd for their experimentalist sound, Patrick Watson attempts to tread the line between mad scientist and musician in his eponymous band’s first release. In a seemingly desperate yet half-hearted attempt to break from the indie mould, Watson has created an album which may as well be classified as background music. The majority of the tracks are full of flat melodic lines that drag on forever, and what little singing there is – is uninspiring. While Just Another Ordinary Day might work well as white noise for study sessions, for those looking for something different, take heed: this album will live up to its title’s promise of just another experiment gone horribly wrong.
