Piano-playing songstress delivers an eclectic mix of vocals and lyrics.
Music sensation Regina Spektor shows that she’s no novice with her latest album, which is “far” from the clichés of the music industry. Spektor explores the many facets of human society in songs like Blue Lips and Machine by seamlessly blending storytelling with inconvenient truths. While Spektor’s vocals are unorthodox and her lyrics profound, clever additions like The Calculation and Folding Chair balance the album with a more mainstream sound. It can be said that Spektor’s music is indeed an acquired taste; but it’s nothing that can’t be acquired. If anything, Far is a wonderful concoction of a wide range of instrumentals, from Spektor’s own piano skills to tubas paired with creative lyrics.
