Swedish pop queen proves to be more than just a Lady Gaga knockoff.
At first glance, the relatively unknown Robyn seems like a European Lady Gaga copycat, but Body Talk Pt. 1 is actually her fifth studio album, the first of which was released in 1996. The first album of a three-part series due to be released throughout this year, Body Talk Pt. 1 showcases many juvenile-themed electropop songs by the 31-year-old Swede. Loaded with bass and synthesizers, it’s meant to be a dance record, but the album is missing a strong danceable rhythm and lyrics such as the ones heard in the track, Dancing on My Own, really don’t help it fit into the dance genre either. All in all, Robyn’s sharp voice and songs like Hang with Me and Cry When You Get Older make the album worth a listen even if the tracks don’t get you on the dance floor.
