A carbon copy of the last album is nice but...
Skillet is a band that continues to innovate and draw in more fans with each release. Its eighth album, despite climbing to number two on the U.S. Billboard 200, is lacking in the same innovation. Awake is a good album, but it sounds exactly like the band's last release. Nothing wrong with that - Skillet's sound, which combines powerful guitars with strings and piano, is a good formula. However it feels like they took Comatose, changed some lyrics, and called it a new album. Awake could be taken as an answer to Comatose, but all in all the lack of new material is disappointing.
