The Strokes’ highly anticipated return is messy and disjointed.
On their recently released record, the New York five-piece rock band seemed more like five one-piece bands. Angles’ disjointed sound most likely attributes to Julian Casablancas’ decision to record his vocals separately from the rest of the band. But let’s be honest, The Strokes were never considered to be masters of musicality anyway. People turn to the rock group for mindlessly catchy tunes that effectively boost up a party’s cool factor. Unfortunately, Angles did not offer many of these besides the single Under Cover Of Darkness. The majority of the record lacks the bouncy optimism that made us fall in love with The Strokes to begin with.
