Marianas Trench Spreads Some Halloween Joy

On October 31st, Marianas Trench, The New Cities, Carly Rae Jepsen and The Mission District rocked out at Mount Royal College in Calgary in true Halloween spirit.

The first to play were The Mission District, performing their hit single So Over You and others, including a medley of popular songs like Paparazzi by Lady Gaga and Disturbia by Rihanna. The crowd was jumping to the beat and there was no lack of screams after each song.

Carly Rae Jepsen was next to come up on stage dressed as Pop! while her band completed the group, dressing up as Crackle! and Snap! Carly Rae sang her singles Bucket, Tug of War and Sour Candy, interacting happily with the fans between songs.

The New Cities came on stage fully costumed, complete with spooky masks. You could tell both the band and the fans were enjoying their time as everyone began singing along to the band’s many fantastic singles.

During the 20-minute wait for the main attraction, the crowd got a bit rowdy in anticipation of Marianas Trench’s appearance. To everyone’s surprise, a person with long blonde hair and a blue dress popped onto the stage - it was the lead singer of Marianas Trench, Josh Ramsay. He walked up to the mike, introduced himself as Little Bo Peep and asked the crowd if they had seen his sheep.

Soon three individuals dressed as sheep appeared on the stage, and it was the rest of the band. The opening song Masterpiece Theater I seemed to satisfy everyone, but when All To Myself began to play the crowd went crazy. Tons of high-pitched screams blended in with the music and everyone was dancing along.

Unlike many live performances, Josh Ramsay and his band mates hit every note perfectly while keeping the beat. Each song performed, like the singles Cross My Heart, All To Myself, and Acadia, had an energetic vibe to it and set the stage for a very fun and lively atmosphere. Each costume slowly got torn, due to the frequent jumping and dancing of the band.

To get with the Halloween spirit, the bass player gave away candy and they finished off with a cover of Thriller by Michael Jackson. The lights slowly lit up and the concert was over.

“It was so entertaining and there were so many types of music played tonight! I loved it!” said a Marianas Trench fan when asked for her thoughts.

Overall the concert was amazing, with a great vibe and awesome music. There was no better way to spend Halloween.
