Country’s Cutie Comes to Calgary

On Wednesday night, the Calgary Stampede was host to the one and only Taylor Swift. In my opinion, this was by far one of the best shows at the Pengrowth Saddledome this year. The place was packed with everyone – from little girls to teenage guys just waiting to see this country cutie hit the stage.

Starting off the night was Gloriana, a fresh new country band, who showed they could hold their own. The adorable Kellie Pickler was next on stage and she reminded us all again why we fell in love with her on American Idol in the first place.

Then finally, it was the act everyone was waiting for and T Swift graced the stage. She opened up with You Belong with Me and right off the bat, the energy in the concert was unreal: everybody was up and screaming along with every word. You could practically see the excitement and anticipation racing through the packed crowd.

Throughout the concert, she stopped to talk to us girls out there about school, boys and heartache. Taylor once again showed everyone that she understands what it’s like and that she writes these songs for her fans to help people through their hardships and heartaches. Between throwing chairs, crazy dancers and lots of hair flips, the audience hung on to her every word and movement. Some super lucky fans in the audience got the chance of a lifetime, as she sang her hits Tim McGraw and Hey Stephen on different parts of the stage, stopping for hugs and pictures along the way.

She closed the show with Change, an empowering song reminding us all that we can do whatever we set our minds on. After only a couple minutes of loud foot stomping, hooting and screams, Taylor came back for her encore and then had her two opening acts come back out to join her. Just when I thought the show was over, she finished with an explosive rendition of Should’ve Said No. Complete with a five-minute drum showdown and Taylor belting out her song while soaking wet under the sprinklers, Taylor finished the show with the reminder that she’s rightfully America’s current sweetheart.
