The Groove Kings: Blood Red

5 stars

This is one groove that will surely pulse through your veins.

If Santana and Aretha Franklin had a musical lovechild, they would’ve named it the Groove Kings. On Blood Red, the duo’s latest album, Irene Marc’s smoky vocals blend beautifully with Howard Forman’s smoldering guitar, tied together by poetically direct lyrics that are pleasantly in-your-face. Further adding to the album’s strengths is the array of influences each song displays. From the bluesy Blood Red to the soul-infused Real Love, the Montreal-based Groove Kings deliver a poignant soundtrack for the summer that is chill, relaxed and contemplative all at once.
