Gucci Mane: The State vs. Radric Davis

2 stars

Rapper ensures his name becomes infamous – in a legal way.

Despite his obvious personal problems – Gucci Mane has been in and out of prison in the last few years – the rapper has never let that stop him from making music. In his second studio album, The State vs. Radric Davis, the CD cover shows him in handcuffs wearing orange prisoner’s clothing, clearly illustrating that he wants his story to be told. In his song Heavy, he raps about life’s pressures: “Somebody help me, my neck hurt, my chain heavy.” Although the album contains explicit lyrics, the beats are simple and the wordplay is complex – and his collaborations with great artists like Usher, Plies and Lil Wayne will make this a perfect album for those who enjoy listening to hardcore hip-hip beats.
