Natasha Bedingfield: Blooms in North America

Growth is a part of every musician's journey if they are to stay on top, and Grammy-nominee Natasha Bedingfield sure has experienced a lot of growth on her journey. Even after selling millions of records and having her song Unwritten (the title track from her 2005 debut CD) featured on numerous soundtracks, including the theme song for the hit MTV reality show The Hills, Natasha Bedingfield is still growing as an artist.

In 2008, Bedingfield released her second album, Pocketful of Sunshine. Working with a talented team (including Maroon's Adam Levine), Bedingfield created a collection of songs that showcase her powerful vocals, catchy lyrics and knack for writing hits, with singles such as Love Like This (featuring Sean Kingston) and the title track, Pocketful of Sunshine.

In the fall, Bedingfield took her amazing talent on the road, touring North America with New Kids on the Block on their reunion tour. "It's great to have toured with New Kids on the Block," she reveals in her strong British accent during our phone interview. "The arenas were packed full with people and the energy levels were outstanding." The scale of this tour definitely shows Bedingfield's career growth in North America; her last tour of the US was a House of Blues tour, which she calls "more intimate show."

And Bedingfield isn't just growing in her career; her personal life is also filled with exciting developments. She recently got engaged to fiancé Matthew Robinson, whom she misses dearly when on tour. "It's really hard when you just want to be with each other. Luckily for me, he was on tour with me for a couple weeks."

Bedingfield not only treasures her fiancé, but also her other family and friends, and she credits them with keeping her grounded despite her phenomenal success. "It's hard not to get a big head," she confesses. "I just have to remember that my friends and family aren't working for me. I once was walking up to my house and gave my sister my keys and bag, then was like, "Wait. You don't work for me." [laughs]

Bedingfield is ecstatic that her success in the UK has translated over to North America, allowing her to do her thing on both continents. "It's amazing," she says. "It's like you have to start over, start at the bottom and work your way up."

As she continues to work her way up, what does the UK songstress say we can expect from her in the future? "Lots of songs. As in my first single, the rest is still unwritten."

With so much success already under her belt, Bedingfield promises that she is "definitely" working on a new album, which is due out next year. So stay tuned for more from Natasha Bedingfield in 2009!
