Victoria's The Archers Win BC's Best Teen Band Contest

Congratulations to The Archers, 2011's BC's Best Teen Band!

The Victoria alt-indie folk band has won the title of BC’s Best Teen Band.

On April 30, 2011, the Top 3 finalists performed live at Tom Lee Music Hall in downtown Vancouver to compete for the grand prize in BC's Best Teen Band Contest. All three bands gave amazing performances, but the judges made the tough decision of selecting The Archers as the best of the best.

As BC's Best Teen Band, The Archers have won approximately $10,000 worth of prizes, including:

  • $3,000 for artist development from 100.5 The Peak and Music BC
  • A recording session with Jay Evjen of Juicemix Productions at The Factory Studios
  • A songwriting session with Shaun Verreault of Wide Mouth Mason
  • A guitar and gift certificates from Tom Lee Music
  • A photo shoot
  • Tuition to Next Level Learning Centre + more!

Congratulations to the second and third-place finalists of BC's Best Teen Band Contest!

  • 2nd place - Ivory Coast – an alt-indie rock band from Abbotsford
  • 3rd place - Stoned Optic – a punk-rock band from Victoria

Ivory Coast and Stoned Optic have each won:

  • $1000 for artist development from 100.5 The Peak and Music BC
  • iTunes gift certificates from SOCAN
  • $100 in gift certificates from Tom Lee Music + more

Established in 2009, BC's Best Teen Band Contest gives young bands from across the province a chance to showcase their music, connect with key players in the music industry and learn how to advance their music careers.

In October 2010, Youthink, Tom Lee Music and 100.5 The Peak launched the second annual BC’s Best Teen Band Contest. In January 2011, the Top 10  bands were selected by a panel of industry judges. In March 2011, online voters chose the Top 3 bands. Music and videos are available at: bandcontest.youthink.ca.

All three of these bands are well deserving of their success in this contest. Their respective sounds are all very unique and strong. I am a big fan of covers with a twist, and that is exactly what The Archers did. Their mash-up of Arcade Fire's "Wake Up" and Victoria's own Aidan Knight's "Jasper" is brilliant. Good job guys!
