Manafest: The Chase

4 stars

A stylistic departure proves to be worth the listen.

Manafest is known as the “white hip-hop artist” on the Christian music scene, but the opening notes of his newest record try to convince you otherwise. It opens with distorted guitars and a rock beat, over which he starts rapping and even singing. The rest of the album follows suit with a heavily rock-influenced hip-hop that at first seems strange, but eventually does impress. The variety among the songs is commendable, and while songs like Supernatural and No Plan B are true headbangers, his talent for rhyming and flow really comes through in Renegade. On the whole, The Chase is a solid record that will appeal to all audiences.
