Meaghan Smith's debut album channels a nostalgic vintage vibe.
With swing rhythms reminiscent of Tin Pan Alley Broadway shows, Meaghan Smith’s debut is a blast from the past – however, the nostalgia is intermittently suspended with the use of turntable scratching, such as in tracks like A Little Love. Featuring a cartoony-sounding Mellotron, The Cricket’s Orchestra is pitch-perfect retro pop, which belies the moody, meandering style of candid and colourful lyrics. Smith`s classy debut recounts a romantic era with hazy strings and an eight-piece horn section while incorporating electronic effects. This imaginative album is wonderfully charming.
