The Perms: Keeps You Up When You’re Down

3 stars

Winnipeg pop powerhouse releases a solid fourth album.

On the heels of its buzz-worthy 2006 effort, Better Days, the Winnipeg-based indie-alternative group The Perms has returned with a fourth CD, Keeps You Up When You’re Down. This time around, the band capitalizes on an edgier, more forceful attitude while still maintaining the energetic pop vibe that’s made them a mainstay for Canadian indie fans. The Perms have produced a solid disc, boasting a host of catchy pop anthems like The Mess and Things Left Unsaid. The result is a twelve-track set of tunes, which may not break any new ground, but will certainly make you want to crank up the volume.
