“It is a play on the never-ending discussion of human creation,” explains Thompson Tran in regards to his band’s name, Splitting Adam. From multiple personalities to the atomic theory of evolution and the religious concept of Adam and Eve, the band intends their name, as with their music, to be open to interpretation.
With melodic songs and moving lyrics inspired by personal experiences, the Vancouver indie-rock band has been hearing its name all over the airwaves, and most recently, on the newest version of the video game Need For Speed. After being one of two live performers at Video Games Live, the band is quickly gaining recognition throughout the Lower Mainland.
The band initially emerged over a decade ago; however the current line-up, which consists of Ross (bass), Seren (vocals), Jordan (drums), Antonio Rosselli (guitar) and Thompson (guitar, vocals, keys), has only been together since 2005. Fortunately, this fivesome has definitely clicked creatively as a group and has attracted plenty of attention.
Keeping listeners captivated with relatable and honest lyrics, Splitting Adam wants individuals to find their own meaning behind every song, as proved with the track Sleeping with Strangers. As Thompson explains, “In the end, we hope that listeners make some sort of connection with each of the songs… whether it be a personal interpretation of the lyrics or a connection to the emotion, the feel or whatever makes sense to them.”
Amidst numerous rave reviews from the press and warm reception from fans, the band maintains that all that truly matters is their love of music: “What’s important is that we’re doing what we love. At this moment in time, all we can do is be happy that we’ve got this amazing gift.”
When asked to predict where they will be in five years, the band is uncertain, but optimistic. “With the kind of attention we are getting at the moment, the level of hard work, creative ability, band chemistry and the undying commitment from each member, I can see us doing this for the next 30 years.”
