School is so over (thank goodness!) and now all there's left to do is chillax. While you’re taking it easy this summer, here's a list of songs that will make up the perfect summer soundtrack.
1. Summer Nights by Rascal Flatts
It may seem obvious from the title, but this song goes perfectly with bare feet and a family barbecue.
2. Don't Stop Believin' by Journey
This song is guaranteed to get everyone rocking out, whether in the aisles at WalMart or at a party. The Glee version deserves some serious play, too.
3. Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield
There's something so distinctively summery about blasting this song and just letting your hair down.
4. Island in the Sun by Weezer
Dripping with sunshine, this Weezer hit is guaranteed to put you in a laid-back mood. And, if you love cute animals (who doesn’t?), the video will have you going “awwww” all summer long.
5. Summer of '69 by Bryan Adams
Even if none of us were alive that year, it's impossible not to feel reminiscent singing along to this song.
6. The Great Escape by Boys Like Girls
If you're graduating this year, this song couldn't be more perfect for you and your friends. "Throw it away, forget yesterday, we'll make the great escape." Even if you aren't graduating, it still must at least be on your roadtrip mix CD.
7. Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus
Love her or hate her, this song is an irresistible summer anthem, even if we all know that the real party is here in Canada.
8. I’m Yours by Jason Mraz
This bouncy hit was the first single to be released from Jason Mraz’s 2008 album, We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things. Mraz’s biggest mainstream hit, this sing-along tune has a breezy island vibe.
9. Low by Flo Rida
Who didn't spend last summer singing along and dancing to this song? I can hear my friends singing it now ... "Apple bottom jeans, boots with the fur (with the fur!) ..."
10. All Summer Long by Kid Rock
Hopefully, you don't spend your summer doing what Kid Rock says he does, but it's hard not to sing along when you hear this tune.
11. Summer Lovin' from "Grease"
Even if musical theatre isn't your thing, this song says just about everything there is to say about high-school summer flings.
12. Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves
Maybe it's corny, but sunshine and summer go so well together.
13. Boys of Summer by Don Henley
This is more of an end-of-summer song. As the days get shorter, crank down the windows and crank up this 1984 hit… “But I can see you. Your brown skin shining in the sun. You got your hair combed back and your sunglasses on, baby. I can tell you my love for you will still be strong. After the boys of summer are gone.”
Memories by David Guetta and
Memories by David Guetta and Kid Cudi is also a really good song to have on a summer soundtrack.
