Trembling Spheres: The Ghosts of Sleepwalk Town

4 stars

Melodic indie-pop debut a radiant breath of fresh air.

With the Canadian indie scene at a roar, the voices of boys in Ray-Bans start to blur. But Trembling Spheres’ The Ghosts of Sleepwalk Town rises above the influence with a disarming collection of nine dream-like harmonies. Trinity Western University’s Christopher Yip delivers tender vocals on the authenticity of life, love and hope. Tracks Radiant One and Come Home are breathtaking, textured with endless layers of guitar and deep drums. The essence of redemption that pervades Spheres’ lyrics is mind-blowing. “Once we thought the past would win, but here we are make our love to last,” and so Once crescendos, flawlessly capturing the album in all its magnificent simplicity.

Viola’s fave track: Chokehold
